Dr. Wilma Sabetta and Dr. Fabrizio Cillo Present FarmEVs Results obtained during Secondment

Dr. Wilma Sabetta and Dr. Fabrizio Cillo delivered an insightful FarmEVs seminar, sharing key results from their secondments at Lehtosarvi farm and the University of Oulu. Their presentation, titled “Plant-Derived Extracellular Vesicles: Molecular Messengers for Plant Defense Responses and Human Health,” highlighted advancements in EV applications for agriculture and biomedicine.

EV Lab On Farm

The research team from CNR-IBBR — Dr. Gabriella Pocsfalvi, Dr. Vladimir Valkov, and Dr. Ani Barbulova — presented their webinar on the “EV Lab on Farm” initiative in frame of their FarmEVs Secondments at the Lehtosarvi farm, hosted by Henri Murto and Maarit Escola.

Key topics included:

  • Exploring the effects of Plant-Derived Nanovesicles (PDNVs) on bean growth and symbiotic performance

  • PDNVs isolation experiments conducted under farm conditions

  • Testing the influence of PDNVs on seed germination

This webinar marks an important step toward bridging laboratory research with real-world agricultural applications, showcasing innovative methods and promising results from the farm-based studies.

FarmEVs Mid-Term Meeting

The FarmEVs Mid-Term Meeting, held on June 26-27, 2025, in Naples, Italy, has successfully concluded, marking a key milestone in the project’s progress under the Horizon Europe MSCA Staff Exchanges program.​

Participants from all partner institutions engaged in productive discussions on research advancements, secondment activities, and collaborative strategies for plant-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) in sustainable agriculture and One Health applications.​

The event was honored by the attendance of Project Officer Dr. Sotirios Kiokias, who provided positive feedback on the progress and offered valuable suggestions to guide future work.​

This meeting strengthened consortium ties, reviewed achievements since the March 2024 kick-off, and outlined next steps toward innovative EV farming systems.​

Dr. Carmen Laezza Presents Secondment Results at University of Oulu

Dr. Carmen Laezza from ImmunoVeg presented the key results from her secondment work at the University of Oulu in a seminar titled: “Exploring Natural Nanomedicine: Cytotoxicity and Anti-Inflammatory Potential of Tomato Nanovesicles in THP-1 Cells.”​

This session highlighted the outcomes of her research on nanovesicles’ therapeutic effects in cellular models, advancing project knowledge exchange.

Dr. Mitja Drab’s Seminar during Secondment at Cinvestav, Mexico

In the framework of his secondment at Cinvestav Mexico, Dr. Mitja Drab delivered a seminar both online and in-person. The topic focused on “Modelling EV Membrane Interactions: Numerical Studies of Vesicle Morphology with Anisotropic Membrane Inclusions.”​

This presentation highlights collaborative research efforts under the MSCA Staff Exchange program, showcasing advanced modeling techniques in biophysical simulations.

We congratulate Dr. Drab on this successful knowledge-sharing event and look forward to further outcomes from his secondment.

1st Symposium on Plant Extracellular Vesicles – Satellite Meeting at ISEV Conference 2025

The First Symposium on Plant Extracellular Vesicles was organized and co-chaired by Dr. Gabriella Pocsfalvi, coordinator of the FarmEVs Project.

The Symposium gathered for the first time the ISEV Plant Task Force members and gave opportunity to a large audience coming from different EV fields to follow the remarkable growth and progress within the plant EVs community.

Inspiring lectures and  fruitful Round Table discussion were part of the Symposium. During the Round Table Discussion, regarding the potential PlantEVs applications, the FarmEVs project was highlited  and acknowledged by Prof. Veronika Kralj Iglič, WP3 leader,  from University of Ljubljana.

The 12th Socratic Symposium is organized by Prof. Veronika Kralj Iglič, Laboratory of Clinical Biophysics, University of Ljubljana, PI in the FarmEVs project.

The FarmEVs session will be chaired by Dr. Gabriella Pocsfalvi, CNR, Naples, PI and Coordinator of the project and Dr.Antonio Di Loria, Immunoveg, PI in the project (uni-lj-si.zoom.us/j/92747764517).
