CNR

Coordinator

The National Research Council (CNR) is the largest public research institution in Italy, that comprises 88 institutes, more than 8.000 employees, researchers and technologists, and more than 4000 young researchers engaged in postgraduate studies and trainings.
CNR is the Coordinator of the FarmEVs project and participates with two Institutes: Institute of Biosciences and BioResources (IBBR), research unit of Naples and research unit of Bari, and Institute of Sustainable Plant Protection (IPSP). At IBBR-Naples the research is focused on the understanding of the genetic, molecular and biochemical mechanisms that regulate the life processes of cells, microorganisms, animal and plant organisms, whereas IBBR-Bari is a center of excellence for the word scientific community in the field of plant biodiversity safeguard, conservation, characterization and valorization. The mission of IPSP is to study plant responses to biotic and abiotic stress factors, aiming to identify mechanisms of resistance and adaptation, to promote plant health in agriculture and forestry.

UL

The University of Ljubljana (UL) is the oldest and largest higher education and scientific research institution in Slovenia, attended by around 40,000 students and employing more than 6,000 teachers, researchers, assistants, and professional and administrative staff at 23 faculties and three art academies.
The Faculty of Health Sciences, Laboratory of Clinical Biophysics and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Laboratory of Physics, are essential part of the FarmEVs project.
The prime subject of work of the Laboratory of Clinical Biophysics is theoretical and experimental research of clinically important problems by using physical methods. We are committed to life-friendly methods and encourage cooperation between different areas of knowledge.
The Laboratory of Physics (LP) is engaged in research in the physics of biological, lipid and liquid-crystal membranes and surfaces, statistical physics, electrostatics and simulations of the electric double layer and plasma, equilibrium forms of closed thin elastic shells, synthesis of semiconductor and metal nanostructured surfaces and particles and the technique of isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles.

UOULU

The University of Oulu (UOULU) is a multidisciplinary university in Northern Finland. There are approximately 14000 students across eight faculties, which include 26 international master’s programs. The University also hosts interdisciplinary institutes, Including the Kvantum Institute and Infotech OuluThe Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (FBMM) located at the University Medical Campus next to the Oulu University Hospital is internationally recognized in collagen research, integrative structural biology hypoxia research, cancer biology, biotechnology, and preclinical disease models.

The research focus within Professor Vainio’s group at the FBMM centers in part on organogenesis, with an emphasis on utilizing the kidney as one key developmental and disease model organ. Our approaches involve the integration of innovative in vivo murine and chick models alongside cutting-edge biomaterials aiming to translate these to the clinic as well. Our research interests provide openings to characterize EVs in diverse health conditions, including the food impact on health, cancers, and brain dynamics.  In connection to these we aim to advance our understanding of EV impact in natural environments through analyses of EVs present in milk, berries, trees, and airborne particulate matter.
